On December 17, 2024, Ambassador of Ukraine Mr Maksym Kononenko met Minister of Economic Affairs and Industry of Estonia Mr Erkki Keldo. During the meeting, the Ukrainian side expressed deep gratitude for Estonia's comprehensive support during this challenging times. The Estonian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue providing all possible assistance to Ukraine.
Ambassador M.Kononenko highly appreciated the Estonian Government’s position in calling on EU member states to support Ukraine's accession to the European Union as part of the EU enlargement policy and to consider this priority during the preparation of the new seven-year EU budget for 2028–2034 (Multiannual Financial Framework).
The parties discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. Ambassador M.Kononenko thanked Estonia for its support in implementing sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet and called for expanding restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus. This proposal was supported by the Estonian side.
Ambassador M.Kononenko also highlighted the implementation of the "investment nannies" program, the development of industrial parks in Ukraine, and the Diia.City initiative as key tools for attracting investments to Ukraine. Emphasis was placed on simplifying regulatory procedures, tax incentives, and state financing for infrastructure projects, which create favorable conditions for international partners, particularly Estonian businesses.
Special attention was given to the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Ambassador M.Kononenko thanked Minister E.Keldo for providing one power unit and urged for the transfer of two additional units in 2025. The Ambassador M.Kononenko also invited the Estonian side to participate in thematic sessions of the Ukraine Support Group, which focuses on Ukraine's reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine, and cooperation in the defense sector. The Estonian side assured that consultations with local businesses would be conducted to activate investment and entrepreneurial activities in Ukraine.
During the meeting, joint steps for further economic development, deepening bilateral cooperation, and supporting Ukraine's European integration course were discussed.
