26 June - Crimean Tatar Flag Day - is a day of honoring the symbol of Ukraine’s indigenous people.
Today, the Crimean Tatar flag stands as a symbol of the struggle for the right to live on one’s native land, for freedom and dignity. It is with the soldiers on the front lines, in trenches, and in combat positions. Each year on this day, the flag is raised over buildings as a reminder of the courage, resilience, and resistance of the Crimean Tatar people against Russian occupiers and their imperial ambitions.
During an event held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Margus Tsahkna, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Maksym Kononenko, expressed sincere gratitude to the Estonian people and the Riigikogu for the adoption of the decision recognizing the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide. He emphasized that this step is a significant contribution by Estonia to the restoration of historical justice.
Both then and now, the Crimean Tatar flag remains a true symbol of resistance. Maksym Kononenko presented it to the Minister as a symbol of the will for freedom, resilience, and faith in victory.
