On 13 December, a global action titled STOP HUMAN SAFARI / SAVE KHERSON took place at Kino Sõprus, aiming to draw attention to the cynical and inhumane practice already described by the international community as “human safari”: Russia’s use of small commercial drones to track and kill Ukrainian civilians in Kherson.
The initiator of the action is Zarina Zabrisky, an American journalist and documentary filmmaker of Ukrainian origin, born in Kherson, and the author of the documentary film “Kherson: Human Safari.” The action in Tallinn was coordinated by Andrii Yatsenko, a civic activist from Kherson, together with the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia.
The main demands of the action are the immediate cessation by Russia of drone attacks against civilians; holding those responsible for these crimes accountable through international justice mechanisms; and comprehensive support for Ukraine by the international community in protecting civilians, including through the provision of modern air defence systems to Ukraine.
During the event, the audience was addressed by Andrii Yatsenko, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Riina Solman, as well as a representative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia.
Andrii Yatsenko spoke about his recent visit to Kherson and the realities of life in the city, where drones are constantly present in the sky and used to hunt civilians.
In her remarks, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Riina Solman expressed her sincere support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, assuring that the Estonian people will continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, sovereignty, and European values.
A representative of the Embassy of Ukraine emphasized that the event serves as a reminder to the international community that impunity fosters further crimes, and that only a coordinated global response can prevent the escalation of this dangerous practice.
