Joint Ukrainian-Estonian Nomination "Pysanka – Ukrainian Egg Decorating Tradition" and Estonian Nomination "Mulgi Puder" Recognized in UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage
11 December 2024 18:33

On December 10, an event was held at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Estonia with the participation of the Estonian Minister of Culture, Heidy Purga.

This event was dedicated to adding the joint Ukrainian-Estonian nomination "Pysanka – Ukrainian Egg Decorating Tradition" and the Estonian nomination for the preparation and eating of Mulgi puder in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Asunción, Paraguay.

We are especially proud that Estonia became our partner in this incredibly important case. This decision was made possible thanks to years of collaboration between our countries. As early as 2017, Ukrainian organizations in Estonia became reliable partners of the Ministries of Culture of Ukraine and Estonia. Together, we embarked on a long but inspiring journey that culminated in this historic recognition.

Pysanka is a spiritual code that embodies the millennia of history, symbolism of life, goodness, and harmony. Its ornaments, colors, and creation techniques form a unique cultural language that resonates far beyond the borders of Ukraine.

This event holds special significance for Ukrainians, as it takes place at a time when Ukraine is fighting for its freedom, identity, and right to exist. The Russian aggressor is attempting to destroy our culture and erase us from the world map. Yet, Ukraine stands resilient, demonstrating its steadfastness and unbreakable spirit. We draw inspiration from our history, from the traditions that unite us, and from the recognition of our heritage by the global community.

We sincerely congratulate our Estonian friends on the inclusion of Mulgi puder in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

We are confident that the Ukrainian and Estonian peoples will continue to strengthen their partnership in the future.
