Shevchenko Days in Tallinn started with a flash mob "Children Read Shevchenko," which took place on March 8th at the Rahva Raamat bookstore (Viru Keskus).
Students from the "School of Freedom" chose their favorite works of Shevchenko and read them sincerely, conveying all their emotions and excitement. Children recited entire poems. Adults were filled with feelings of pride for Ukrainian youth, who read Taras Shevchenko.
The musical interpretation of "The Poplars" presented by students of the school - Vladyslav Repka and Rostyslav Babenko was interesting.
The event was attended by children who came to Estonia from different parts of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Izyum...), fleeing from the war. They thanked Estonia for the opportunity to live under peaceful skies and continue their education. Children supported their friends who performed with applause. A big thank you to the teachers of the "School of Freedom," especially Tetiana Shendryk and Daria Levanchuk, for teaching them to be grateful and tolerant.
On March 9th, the event dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko's birth took place at the Hopner House in Tallinn, titled "Do You Know Shevchenko?" organized by the Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia.
The event was addressed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, who highlighted in his speech the significant role of T. Shevchenko in the history of the Ukrainian people: "Undoubtedly and rightly, Taras Hryhorovych became a symbol of Ukraine. The most powerful university in the country bears his name, the most prestigious award for contribution to culture and art is named after him, and hundreds of streets and names are associated with his figure. Shevchenko is inseparable from Ukraine, and Ukraine cannot be separated from Shevchenko. And so it has been for two centuries."
Natalya Chebotaryova offered an interesting quiz about the life and work of Taras to the attendees. She also shared interesting facts that debunk the stereotypes imposed on Ukrainians by Soviet propaganda about Shevchenko as an old, weary person and suggested looking at Kobzar from a different perspective - from the point of view of a modern person.
Alina Yemelyanenko read her poems about Taras, Lisa Tarazevich excellently recited "Isaiah," and the group "Provesin" performed songs to Shevchenko's lyrics.
On March 9, 2024, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Shevchenko oak and stone located on Mere pst in Tallinn.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine, Maksym Kononenko, and his spouse Tetiana Doroshenko, employees of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia, the Head of the Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia, Vira Konyk, the Head of the Union of Ukrainian Women in Estonia, Lilia Ivanchenko, and other representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.

On March 9th, 2024 a literary and musical evening dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the birth of the great Kobzar took place at the Teacher's House in Tallinn. The event was organized by the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia.
Addressing the attendees, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, noted in his speech: "T. Shevchenko deliberately made his choice in favor of Ukraine and Ukrainians, in favor of his people, becoming the voice of their sufferings and hopes for the better. Today, amidst the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, such a choice stands before each of us.
Dear friends!
Ukraine will stand, fight, and prevail as long as millions of Ukrainians identify themselves as Ukrainians. Breathe like Ukrainians, love like Ukrainians, think like Ukrainians, no matter what. For me, this is the main teaching of the Kobzar!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!"
During the event, the works of the great Kobzar were heard in Ukrainian, Estonian, and English. Additionally, the band "Dzherelo" and the duo "Rodovid" performed songs based on his poetry. The students of the Ukrainian Sunday School "Nadiya" were warmly greeted, as they excellently recited T. Shevchenko's poems and performed songs based on his verses accompanied by a bandura ensemble.
