September 15-16, 2012 in Maardu the 11th "Sorochynskyi yarmarok in Maardu" was held. It has a unique character, because it is the only Sorochynskyi yarmarok (fair), held outside the territory of Ukraine. This year it was inserted into the Guiness records book of Ukraine.
Author and organiser of the fair Mykola Shvets this year as well provided for holding interesting event. The participants of the fair and personages of Gogol composition "Sorochynskiy yarmarok" made a traditional walk down the streets of Maardu.
In the festive activities in the framework of the fair the personnel of the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia, municipality of Maardu, with support of which the Fair is held, representatives of the Ministry of culture of Estonia etc.
September 15, 2012 – on the first day of holding the Fair- the representatives of the municipality planted the linden tree – in continuation of the recently layed this year the linden lane of the twin towns – for the Ukrainian twin towns of Maardu (twin towns of Maardu are the Ukrainian towns Myrgorod and Illichivsk).
Traditionally the event became not only a place for trade, but the center of the Ukrainian culture of Maardu during two days of holding the Fair. At two stages, set up at the event the Ukrainian songs were heard, sang by the bands of the Ukrainian organisations from Parnu, Tallinn, Narva, Tartu and Oisu, as well as by the band "Svyata vatra", created by Ruslan Trochynsky, the former participant of the band "Haydamaky". As a culmination of the event guests of the Fair had an opportunity to watch colourful fireworks.
