Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia M. Kononenko participates in online event dedicated to the launch of the 2025 Regional Refugee Response Plan

Today, on February 4, 2025, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Maksym Kononenko, participated in an online event dedicated to the launch of the 2025 Regional Refugee Response Plan, with the participation of the UNHCR Representative for the Nordic and Baltic Countries, Ms. Annika Sandlund.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude to Ms. Annika Sandlund for her important work as the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as to her team, whose active efforts and dedication have played a key role in providing vital support to Ukrainians in need.

Additionally, in his speech, the Ambassador emphasized that supporting Ukrainian educational institutions abroad is one of the key priorities among other vital needs of temporarily displaced Ukrainians.

The representative of the Ukrainian community "Vodohrai" (Sillamäe), Lida Zhytnyk, presented a report on the activities of eight Ukrainian Sunday schools operating in Estonia. It was emphasized that these institutions play a crucial role in preserving national identity, language, culture, and traditions, while also requiring support in terms of technical equipment and educational materials.

The Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia sincerely thanks Lida Zhytnyk for the well-prepared and skillfully presented presentation, which stands out for its high professionalism, substance, and thorough approach.

In Estonia, funding under the Regional Refugee Response Plan will be directed towards initiatives such as youth engagement, educational seminars for adults and children, workshops on professional skills development, language courses, entrepreneurship support, strengthening social cohesion, ensuring mental health and providing psychosocial support, research and assistance for employers in hiring temporarily displaced Ukrainians, temporary housing, digital skills training and the use of Estonia's e-government tools, online mental health consultations, as well as expanding access to primary medical care and mental health services.
