During a regional visit to Rakvere, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, visited the Lääne-Virumaa Central Library, which also serves as an important community hub for Ukrainian displaced persons.
The Ambassador met with the library's director, Kaili Õunapuu, and presented her with a certificate of appreciation. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for her personal involvement in supporting Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes due to the war.
The Lääne-Virumaa Central Library has become not only a center of knowledge but also a place of support, cohesion, and integration for the Ukrainian community. Notably, the language café operating within the library is a unique initiative that helps Ukrainian displaced persons learn Estonian and adapt to a new cultural environment.
Additionally, the library has established a children’s room that offers various activities for kids.
The Ambassador presented a selection of books for the Ukrainian bookshelf, which operates in the library as part of an initiative by Spilno_ee and MTÜ Divergent Woman.
During the meeting, the Ambassador emphasized that the library’s work stands as an outstanding example of solidarity and humanity.
