During the meeting with Minister of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia, Ms. Kristina Kallas, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Maksym Kononenko, expressed gratitude to the Government of Estonia and the Minister personally for their support of Ukrainian students. Specifically, he thanked them for enabling Ukrainian students to continue their education free of charge at Estonian higher education institutions after February 24, 2022. Additionally, he appreciated the opening of schools for children of forcibly displaced Ukrainian citizens and the establishment of a temporary examination center for entrance exams to Ukrainian universities.
On her part, Ms. Kristina Kallas pledged to continue supporting Ukrainian students and informed about the reforms in education sphere currently being implemented by the Estonian side, as well as about the support provided by relevant specialists to Ukrainian children during this transitional period.
Also, the Estonian side expressed concern about the recognition in Ukraine of Estonian diplomas of Ukrainian children who plan to return and continue their education in Ukraine.
The Ambassador informed that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has developed an integrated online course of the Ukrainian component, the completion of which will be recognized as grades for compulsory subjects in Ukrainian schools. Consequently, students will be able to obtain two diplomas - one from the country of residence and one from Ukraine.
The Ambassador also conveyed a letter from Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Mr. M. Bidnyi, addressed to Minister of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia, Ms. Kristina Kallas, and emphasized the necessity of collaborating with youth organizations to counter russia's efforts to engage youth from various countries in youth and sports events planned to be held in russia.
