On April 3, 2024, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, visited the Republic of Estonia on an official invitation from the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas. During the visit, the Head of the Ukrainian Government held negotiations with Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia Kaja Kallas in both face-to-face and delegation formats, and conveyed her with the Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Following the negotiations, the Heads of Governments signed a Joint Statement, held a press conference for Estonian and international media, and also laid flowers at the Memorial to the Victims of the Communist Regime in Maarjamäe.
During his stay in Tallinn, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held negotiations with the President of Estonia Alar Karis, visited the Riigikogu (Parliament) of Estonia, where he met with the President (Speaker) of the Riigikogu of Estonia Lauri Hussar and the leadership of the main committees of the Riigikogu and the Estonia-Ukraine Friendship Group, familiarized with the activities of Tallinn University of Technology, and delivered a speech to students and faculty. He also gave an interview to the Estonian national broadcaster ERR.
During the meetings, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Estonian state and the Estonian people for their consistent and comprehensive support to Ukraine in its fight against full-scale Russian aggression. "We especially value Estonia's support, which has taken on a long-term character. The Estonian government has developed the «Victory Strategy for Ukraine», which entails annual defense assistance to Ukraine amounting to 0.25% of GDP over the next 4 years," emphasized Denys Shmyhal. "This Estonian initiative sets a good example for other partners."
The focal points of the discussions included further bilateral cooperation in the defense sphere, coordination of efforts to maintain the unity of Western partners in providing our state with defense, financial, and humanitarian assistance, implementation of the Ukrainian Formula for Peace, Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO, signing of a bilateral security agreement, holding Russia accountable, and using frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as a wide range of issues related to enhancing bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.
