On November 6, 2023, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia Maksym Kononenko met with the Minister of Social Protection of Estonia Signe Riisalo at the premises of the Estonian Ministerium.
During the meeting, Ambassador Kononenko personally thanked Minister Riisalo and the Estonian people for the support of Ukrainians in Estonia, for providing Ukrainians with unhindered access to education and the labor market, for assistance in the rehabilitation and prosthetics of Ukrainian servicemen. The ambassador urged the Estonian side to continue to support Ukraine.
M. Kononenko paid special attention to the problems of minor Ukrainians who are in Estonia under the supervision of guardians or are under temporary guardianship by the decision of the Estonian court. It was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the consular unit of the Embassy and the Estonian authorities to protect the rights and interests of this most vulnerable category of Ukrainian immigrants.
The ambassador also touched upon the issues of joint counteraction to human trafficking and other cross-border crimes, improving the procedure for providing temporary EU protection in Estonia, collecting humanitarian assistance for Ukrainian schools to organize distance learning, and countering Russian propaganda in sports.
Minister of Social Protection S. Riisalo assured of the immutability of Estonia's policy of supporting the Ukrainian people in the struggle against the Russian invaders. She expressed the readiness of the Estonian authorities to provide comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in overcoming the consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Russian aggression.
