On 13 September, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Margus Tsahkna, who arrived in Kyiv on a visit.

During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed in detail the situation on the battlefield and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace, including Europe’s role in this process.

“A stronger Ukraine means a stronger position for Europe. Maintaining pressure on Russia remains essential to creating the conditions for a comprehensive and lasting peace,” Andrii Sybiha stressed.

The Foreign Ministers devoted significant attention to strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and expanding defence cooperation, including opportunities to combine Ukraine’s combat experience and defence technologies with Estonia’s capabilities.

Particular attention was paid to the use of frozen Russian assets and to further strengthening sanctions, including against Russia’s military-industrial complex and the resources that sustain the functioning of Russia’s war machine.

An important topic of the meeting was Estonia’s support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and its active role in advancing the negotiation process. The Foreign Ministers also discussed cooperation within the framework of Estonia’s NB8 Presidency and further consolidation of support for Ukraine among Nordic and Baltic partners.

Energy security ahead of the winter period was another important component of the visit. Ukraine and Estonia continue their joint efforts to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system in the face of Russian attacks.

A separate part of the discussion focused on preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Tallinn in 2027, as well as coordination ahead of the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly and key events scheduled during this period.

“Ukraine and Estonia know from history what Russian imperialism leads to. Today, we also know what stops it: strength, unity, and the readiness to act before threats become even greater,” Andrii Sybiha stated.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine thanked Margus Tsahkna for his visit to Kyiv and for Estonia’s consistent support for Ukraine not only in words, but also through concrete decisions and actions.
