On 29 August, a commemorative event was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia to mark the Day of Remembrance for Ukraine’s fallen defenders who gave their lives in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.

The event brought together Embassy staff and representatives of the Ukrainian community in Estonia.

In his address, Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia Volodymyr Boiechko paid tribute to the defenders of Ukraine who gave their lives for the independence of our country. He noted that the pain of losing family members and loved ones has touched almost every Ukrainian family.

The Ambassador also paid tribute to the Estonian volunteers who stood in defence of Ukraine and gave their lives for our shared freedom. At Independence Square in Kyiv, among the flags placed in memory of the fallen defenders, there are also Estonian flags - a symbol of remembrance of their courage and sacrifice.

Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine. As a sign of mourning, the State Flag of Ukraine was lowered to half-mast.

A memorial service for all those who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine was jointly conducted by Father Roman of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Tallinn and Father Mykhailo of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

In closing, Ambassador Volodymyr Boiechko sincerely thanked everyone who joined in honouring the memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders, stressing our shared duty to preserve the memory of each and every person who gave their life for Ukraine.
