On December 6, 2024, a meeting of the Ukraine Support Group took place, serving as a key platform for discussing defense cooperation. The event was attended by ambassadors accredited in Estonia and representatives of Estonia’s defense sector.
The meeting aimed to enhance international cooperation and facilitate the exchange of experience. It was opened by the Lithuanian Ambassador to Estonia, Ms Raimonda Murmokaitė, who delivered an introductory speech encouraging productive dialogue among participants.
In his address, Mr Kaimo Kuusk, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Estonia, expressed support for Ukraine, outlined future cooperation plans, and highlighted potential projects involving partnerships and external financing. Following his speech, Mr. Kuusk engaged with attendees in a Q&A session.
During the event, leading Estonian defense industry companies showcased their production capabilities:
Mr Jaanus Tamm, CEO of DefSecIntel, presented the company’s capabilities in manufacturing and supplying AI-supported automated surveillance platforms and remote monitoring systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Mr Kalev Koidumäe, CEO of the Estonian Defense and Aerospace Industry Association, spoke about legislative initiatives, investment opportunities, and prospects for collaboration between Estonian and Ukrainian companies.
Mr Maksym Orlov, Sales and Project Manager at Threod Systems, highlighted the company’s production capacity and the potential to supply drones for Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
To conclude the meeting, the Ukrainian Ambassador, Mr Maksym Kononenko, introduced the “ZBROYARI: Manufacturing Freedom” initiative, focusing on Ukraine’s defense potential, existing joint defense projects, and prospects for future cooperation. The Ambassador also called on international partners to deepen collaboration in the defense sector.
The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening defense cooperation, not only between Ukraine and Estonia but also in attracting new partners to enhance regional security and promote high-tech development.
