On 9 May 2025, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia and in cooperation with local educational authorities, the State Flags of Ukraine were raised in schools across the city of Sillamäe (Ida-Viru County), alongside the flags of Estonia, the European Union, and those of the educational institutions. This gesture is not only a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people but also a clear affirmation of Ukraine’s belonging to the European family.
In particular, Ukrainian flags were raised at the following institutions:
Sillamäe Gymnasium – https://home.sillamaegymn.edu.ee/meie-koolist/missioon-ja-visioon
Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Centre, Sillamäe Branch – https://sillapk.edu.ee/et/meie-koolist/koolist
Sillamäe Vanalinna School – https://www.svlk.edu.ee/index/history.html
Students and teachers from these institutions actively participated in the celebration: they took part in themed quizzes, attended events in Narva, and held discussions about the importance of European values—freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, peace, and stability—values that Ukraine is defending today.
The year 2025 also holds special symbolic meaning for Estonia, as the country marks the 21st anniversary of its accession to the European Union and NATO. Ukraine continues its path toward full membership in these organizations, enjoying steadfast support from the Estonian people and state.
The Embassy of Ukraine expresses its sincere gratitude to the administrations and student bodies of the mentioned schools for their initiative, openness to cooperation, and profound understanding of the importance of European unity in our time.
Ukraine is Europe. Today and always.
