On July 10, 2023, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, held a meeting with the Speaker of the Riigikogu of Estonia, Lauri Hussar.
During the conversation, the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, further assistance from Estonia in the defense sphere and post-war reconstruction of our state, accountability of those responsible for the crime of Russian aggression under international criminal law, prospects of Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, and Estonian support and assistance on this path were discussed.
The Speaker of the Riigikogu of Estonia, Lauri Hussar, emphasized that Estonia will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggressor and the restoration of our state's territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, as well as provide comprehensive assistance to our country.
In turn, Ambassador Maksym Kononenko expressed gratitude to the deputies of the Riigikogu for their active support of Ukraine and the leadership position of the Parliament of Estonia in making key decisions to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian military aggression. The Ambassador of Ukraine specifically emphasized that the decisions adopted by the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia serve as an example for parliaments of other countries.
Ambassador Maksym Kononenko expressed hope for the continuation of a fruitful Ukrainian-Estonian interparliamentary dialogue as an important component of international support for Ukraine in its victory over the aggressor.
