27 April 2026 11:50

A screening of the documentary film “People of the Zone” by Yevheniia Podobna took place at the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia, marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The event was organized in cooperation with the Artsitch creative initiative and Docudays UA.

The film brings together diverse stories of people connected by a unique bond with the 30-kilometre Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, including scientists, engineers, researchers, a former stalker, residents who remained in Chornobyl after the disaster, as well as those who experienced the occupation of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant by Russian forces in 2022. Their life paths differ, yet they are united by a shared experience and a profound sense of connection to this place.

During the event, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia, Volodymyr Boiechko, shared his personal recollections and impressions of the events following the Chornobyl disaster.

The film sparked strong interest among the young audience and led to a lively discussion after the screening.

The screening provided an important opportunity to reflect on the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster and its lasting impact today, as well as to draw attention to issues of responsibility and global security.
