On September 20-24, 2024, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, visited Estonia. During his visit, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, held meetings with the Estonian Council of Churches, as well as representatives of Estonian state bodies, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Lauri Läänemets, and a delegation from the Estonia-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Riigikogu, headed by the group's deputy leader, Urmas Reinsalu. During this visit, His Beatitude Sviatoslav conducted liturgies in the churches of Tallinn, participated in a joint ecumenical prayer with the Estonian Council of Churches, and met with the Ukrainian community in Estonia.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Estonia, Maksym Kononenko, also met with the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to His Beatitude for this significant visit to Estonia, as it marks the first visit of the Head of the UGCC to the Republic of Estonia. The Ambassador noted that, despite the separation of church and religious organizations from the state in Ukraine, there are many common goals abroad. These include helping Ukrainian citizens overcome the consequences of Russia's horrific war, uniting Ukrainians who have temporarily left their homes, and working together to counter Russian aggression. Additionally, they aim to convey the truth to international partners about the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
During official meetings with representatives of Estonian state bodies, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the UGCC, expressed sincere gratitude to the Republic of Estonia for its support of the Ukrainian people during the war and the assistance provided. He also discussed the activities of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, as well as the ecumenical dialogue between the churches in Ukraine. During his meeting with the Ukrainian diaspora in Estonia, His Beatitude Sviatoslav urged the Ukrainian community to unite in the face of a common enemy and in resisting Russian aggression against the Ukrainian people.
