On January 12, 2024, Ambassador of Ukraine M.Kononenko, Ambassador of Norway M.Dirdal, and Executive Director of the Estonian Center for International Development Klen Jaarats met at the Central Hospital of East Tallinn.
The event began with a presentation by Dr. Heidi Alasep on the topic: "Estonian experience and lessons: 10 years since the creation of a modern rehabilitation center". During the presentation, all present were informed about developing a rehabilitation center based at the Central Hospital of East Tallinn.
Afterward the presentation, the floor was taken by the Executive Director of the Estonian Center for International Development Klen Jaarats, who attracted the attention of participants to the possibility of implementing such a project in Ukraine using the premises of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 8.
Ambassador of Ukraine M.Kononenko expressed gratitude to the representatives of the Estonian Center for International Development for the implemented projects of a kindergarten in Ovruch town, Zhytomyr region, and a bridge in Malyn town. Ambassador M.Kononenko also drew the attention of the audience to the need to create a powerful rehabilitation center in Ukraine, taking into account the necessity for the rehabilitation of a significant number of Ukrainian servicemen and civilians who suffered as a result of russian aggression. The Ukrainian side also stressed the need to finance such projects, one of the donors may be Norway. Ambassador of Ukraine M.Kononenko informed the Norwegian side about the experience of the Estonian Center for International Development in such projects, particularly their awareness of Ukrainian legislation and security requirements.
Ambassador of Norway M.Dirdal informed the audience about the meeting of Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre with the Estonian Center for International Development and announced the participation of the Norwegian side in projects for the development of social infrastructure in Ukraine.
After the round table meeting, all event participants visited the Rehabilitation Center, where they witnessed treatment rooms and the manufacture of prostheses for people who lost limbs. This Center also rehabilitated Ukrainian soldiers, who also got prostheses here.
Upon completion of familiarization with the equipment of the Rehabilitation Center, the parties agreed to continue work on the project of creating a Rehabilitation Center in Ukraine with the involvement of Estonian companies and Norwegian financial support.
